OAKLAND — Garrett County schools Superintendent Janet Wilson has been appointed associate superintendent in the Office of Shared Accountability at Montgomery County Public Schools.

Wilson, who notified the Garrett County Board of Education in February that she won't seek a new contract, will begin her new duties Friday. She's wrapping up a four-year term as the county's superintendent.

“I look forward to a collaborative experience and the important work that will be accomplished on behalf of the students, staff and community of Montgomery County each and every day,” she said.

Prior to her time in Garrett County, Wilson worked in Allegany County Public Schools for nearly 25 years in a variety of roles, including chief academic officer, assistant superintendent, supervisor of early childhood education, principal and teacher.

Wilson said she appreciates the support of the Garrett County Board of Education in moving the school system forward to provide a 21st century academic program that has enabled students to thrive in a competitive workforce and in ever-changing world conditions.

The Garrett County school board is expected to appoint Wilson's successor during a meeting Wednesday evening in Oakland.
